Bangladeshi and Rohingyan Migrants in Kerala

Illegal Migrants in Kerala from Bengladesh and Myanmar…

1. 2013 study of the Gulati Institute of Finance and Taxation – made available by the Department of Labour and Skills – there are over 25 lakh migrant workers in Kerala, from not only other states, but also Bangladesh and Nepal
2. Now it is estimated as 40 lakhs. Out of which around 50% are from Bengladesh and Myanmar.
3. There are two categories of foreign illegal immigrants. One who directly come to Kerala, and the other who gets into other states, mostly Assam and West Bengal, obtain some Indian documents and then come to Kerala.
4. Now after the implementation of NPR in Assam the inflow of the second category of illegal immigrants from Assam is on an increase.
5. There are a number of organisations, both legal and illegal working for the immigration of these foreign nationals at those countries and here in India at the border States and in states like Kerala where they are migrating to.
6. These people are used for all sorts of anti national and illegal activities such as bringing in arms and ammunition, drug trafficking, exchange of counterfeit currency etc.
7. They have a very well planned strategy for obtaining Indian documents.
(a) through the agencies which are helping them migrate. These agencies have planted their second level support groups in key Government departments which provide them all support in obtaining a valid Indian document.
(b) Purchase of land, both in their own name and in the name of those who are yet to migrate. This has been happening in Assam for quite a number of years.
(c) Creating duplicate documents of those who are already Indian citizens by changing their identity.
(d) Getting into tribal areas to camouflage as tribals by those who do not have proper documents to prove their identity.
