Early Life and Education
Rekha Gupta was born on July 19, 1974, in Julana, Haryana. At the age of two, her family relocated to Delhi when her father, Jai Bhagwan Jindal, assumed the role of branch manager at the State Bank of India in Pitampura. Her mother, Urmila Jindal, was a homemaker. Gupta pursued her Bachelor of Commerce degree from Daulat Ram College, Delhi University. During her college years, she became actively involved in student politics, joining the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in 1992. She furthered her education by completing a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Chaudhary Charan Singh University in Meerut in 2022.
Personal Life
In 1998, Rekha Gupta married Manish Gupta, an industrialist specializing in brass parts and an agency associate at Kotak Life Insurance. The couple has two children: a daughter, Harshita Gupta, involved in the family business, and a son, Nikunj Gupta, who is currently pursuing his studies.
Political Career of Rekha Gupta
Gupta’s political journey commenced during her tenure at Delhi University. She was elected as the General Secretary of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) in 1995 and served as its President from 1996 to 1997. Her leadership extended to local governance when she was elected as a councillor from North Pitampura in 2007, focusing on enhancing local amenities such as libraries, parks, and swimming pools. She also introduced the “Sumedha Yojana,” an initiative aimed at supporting economically disadvantaged female students in pursuing higher education. This win was instrumental in the BJP’s overall success, as the party won 48 out of 70 seats, marking its return to power in Delhi after 27 years.
